The crail grab. The benni hanna. The roast beef. Not to mention the very much dreaded and aptly named ‘stink bug' frontside air. The list of the most hated tricks in skateboard history might be short, it still can make your average skater cringe to this day. Once upon a time -and not that long ago by the way- anything done "tuck-knee style" belonged to this museum of horrors. Not just because it was ‘80s Alva pro John Thomas signature move. Just... because, you know. That was before Daniel Cardone's reign. It took a fast, stylish and uber-creative Italian skater, straight out of Bologna, to elevate the tuck-knee from an embarrasment in a skater's repertoire to a straight-up art form. Cardone can even carve tuck-knee, and not loose any speed. His secret is simple: style. "Danger" was just born this way. He flows. He doesn't practice, and is easier to spot on his couch or behind a friend's records booth at the Bob Marley Day festival in Long Beach than hard at "work." This is probably why he's always smiling, displaying his loose style and humble manners, winning without trying. He took the Malmo Bowlriders contest by storm in 2006, and was always a crowd favorite in Marseille before that, thanks to his huge channel f-side kickflips. The Bolognese also got awarded the Best Trick at the European Open (Basel Switzerland), and ranked 4th Place Overall at the World Cup Skateboarding. Oh and yeah, he's the only skater in the world who ever got a full magazine entirely dedicated to himself. Greatly fond of tuck-knees, the late Freestyler mag once issued, indeed, a " special Cardone " issue. And guess what ? It was deserved. " Danger " made one more step towards stardom when the mag unveiled, among other tricks from outterspace, Cardone's alleyoop tuck-knee on a Burnside hip. And yet, the guy's not done. Right now, he's been helping crailslides to become popular again. In the shadows of shame, all the benni hannas, stink bugs and roast beefs are waiting for their day of deliverance to come... And only Daniel Cardone can give a hand.
