Maxime, aged just 17 became ASP World Junior Champion in January 2010. Competing in North Narrabeen, Australia he became the first Frenchman to lift the biggest trophy in Junior Surfing. His name is etched in history alongside legendary past champions such as Andy Irons, Parko and Jordy Smith. Well known on the European scene, Maxime now finds himself in the global spotlight.
Maxime grew up on Reunion Island where local surfers gave him his nickname of ‘Macabi', meaning little fish in Creole, due to his prowess as a free diver. Maxime's passion for surfing developed and in 2003 the talented young surfer joined the Quiksilver team. His discrete style and friendly nature Maxime is both liked and respected by his peers.
His focus and family support played a major role in young Macabi's progression and improving contest results. Having won national and European titles for his age group the next goal was to make a mark on the world stage. At the ISA World Games in Caparica, Portugal in May 2007 he ranked 6th in the under 16's. He placed 5th in the ASP World Junior Championships in 2008. Constantly pushing himself in 2009 he upped his game to reach 3rd in The ISA World Junior Championships in Ecuador.
His journey to being Europe's youngest World Champion in 2010 has been a fantastic tale of hard work; passion and constant strive for perfection. His apprenticeship has included surfing alongside elite fellow team riders such as Kelly Slater and Jeremy Flores, and trips to the best waves on the planet. Maxime's enthusiasm is electrifying and his journey for world-class performance even at his young age is just starting to hit its stride.
